Computer Program

The mission of the Mater Dolorosa School Computer Program is to give students the skills needed to safely and proficiently use today’s technology.  We strive to continually upgrade equipment and add to our software library.  Students attend a self-contained Computer Lab once weekly beginning in Kindergarten and each classroom in the school is equipped with at least one computer workstation with internet access.  Several SmartBoards are located throughout the School.

Our classroom teachers and computer lab teacher work collaboratively to integrate students’ classroom curriculum in the Computer Program.  In the primary grades this includes the use of math and reading programs to reinforce the skills students are learning in the classroom as well as art, beginner keyboarding and internet skills.  In the middle school grades student’s use internet research to develop Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher projects associated with classroom study.  Classroom teachers also utilize the Computer Lab to enhance or support their classroom curriculum.

Our technology program is committed to providing students with a state-of-the-art computer experience.  Our parent-teacher Technology Committee has developed a Five-Year Technology Program which establishes guidelines to follow for future school-wide technology purchases.  If you are interested in becoming a member of our Technology Committee, please contact Mrs. Godbout, our computer teacher and technology coordinator.

Computer Lab Fundraising

Mater Dolorosa School is enrolled in a recycling program, Funding Factory, which recycles cell phones, inkjet and laser cartridges.  By collecting cartridges the school earns points that can be converted into cash and equipment.  Since enrolling in the program, the school has earned over $6,000.  We encourage all students to participate in the program by collecting cartridges and cell phones from family and friends.  If your employer does not recycle cartridges, please ask them to donate them to the school.  For more information on the program, you can visit the Funding Factory web site and www.fundingfactory.com or contact the computer teacher.  Also, each year, the School's Technology Program holds a calendar fundraiser in the month of December for drawing during the month of January. This is an important and successful fundraiser for our technology program that provides funds for planned technology purchases and emergencies.
